Electoral roll CM instructing CEO,says CPM
With the Election Commission of India having rejected the Trinamool Congress governments request to defer the electoral roll revision till the panchayat polls in West Bengal, the CPM on Wednesday alleged that the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Kolkata was functioning on the instructions of the Trinamool as it has asked government employees involved in revising electoral roll to work even during the pujas.
Along with a host of Left leaders,CPM leader Rabin Deb submitted a memorandum to the CEO on Wednesday condemning the order which made it mandatory for the staff members revising the electoral roll to work during the festival days.
The order will not only force the government staffers to work on the day of Mahalaya,Durga Puja,Lakshmi Puja and Eid,anganwadi workers will also come under the ambit of the order. The order was issued to realise Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees wish to advance the three-tier rural polls, said Deb.
Initially,it was decided that the work on revision of the electoral roll will be held in two phases from October 1 to October 20 and from October 30 to November 9. But after the Election Commission advanced the last date of publication of revised electoral list from January 15 to January 2,2013,an order was issued on September 29 by the Chief Electoral Officers office informing officials involved in the election roll revision that there will be no holidays for them during the festive season.
