Trinamool MP Dinesh Trivedi, who had contradicted party chief Mamata Banerjee by supporting the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee for President, did a U-turn today saying he will abide by the partys instruction on who to support. After being summoned by Mamata, former railway minister Trivedi came to Writers Buildings accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh. The meeting lasted for more than one hour. She is our party chief and I am a party member. The meeting is a routine one. There is nothing unusual in this (meeting), Trivedi said. When asked if the chief minister had sought a clarification from him for his remarks on Mukherjees candidature,Trivedi made a quick retreat saying,I will abide by the partys decision on the Presidential election. Asked if Mamata had summoned Trivedi,Ghosh said: There is no need to speculate on the issue. Who called who is irrelevant. Both Trivedi and the chief minister belong to the same family and there is nothing unusual in meeting each other. Ghosh added,The party has not yet taken a decision on its choice for President. The decision will be taken later. Being a member of the party,Trivedi will obey the partys instruction. Sources in Trinamool, however, said Trivedi did not want to continue his tirade against the party and Mamata too wanted to put an end to the differences between the party and Trivedi. By summoning Trivedi,Mamata wants to convey a strong message down the party that breach of discipline will never be tolerated, said a Trinamool leader.
