Free laptop,tablet scheme put on fast track

To start the process of procurement of laptops within next one month,the state government has finalised the technical specifications as well as tender document for inviting bid.

To start the process of procurement of laptops within next one month,the state government has finalised the technical specifications as well as tender document for inviting bid. For the final decision,the file of the global tender document with technical specifications has been sent to the chief minister’s office and the request for qualification (RFQ) document would be floated next week.

While the technical specifications have been prepared by the committee comprising experts from IIM Lucknow and IIT Kanpur,the bid document has been prepared by the consultant KPMG. The Cabinet had decided to distribute free laptops to Class 12 pass-outs taking admission for higher education and free tablets to Class 10 pass-outs taking admission in Class 11.

However,at present,the government has finalised technical specification of laptops along with the request for qualification document.

According to the estimate given by the secondary education department,about 17.98 lakh laptops would be required for free distribution,while the number of tablets would be about 26 lakh this year. The government had decided to float a global e-tender for both.

“We are moving ahead with laptops first. Technical specifications along with the tender document have got clearance from the Law Department and have been sent for approval from the higher level. The government might also place it before the Cabinet. The target is to float the global tender in the coming week after getting the necessary approval”,informed a senior government officer.
