The BJP has accused the UP State Election Commission of failing to conduct peaceful and fair local body elections in the state.
At a press conference Tuesday, party state president Laxmikant Bajpai said discrepancies in the electoral roll, malfunctioning of EVMs and insufficient security deployment at polling booths were the key reasons for low poll percentage and violence in 18 districts where polling has been held so far.
BJP alleged that SEC also gave a free run to Samajwadi Party workers that led to law and order problem at various places. Re-poll was ordered at some polling booths in Lucknow,Etawah and Meerut. They also alleged that SP has not given party symbol to its workers contesting the elections although it is supporting them indirectly.
BJP has demanded the SEC to deploy Rapid Action Force along with Civil Police at the strong rooms where EVMs are kept after poll. They have also demanded CCTV cameras at these places and allow at least one representative of each candidates to stay there.
