After Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reviewed the performance of Power department on Tuesday,Uttar Pradesh Power Department blacklisted six companies supplying transformers in Dakshiranchal region covering areas of western UP and Bundelkhand including SP stronghold areas like Mainpuri,Etawah,Kannauj and Auraiya.
The Corporation also suspended chief engineer of the region K K Singhal and superintending engineer Narendra Agarwal on charges of negligence of duty. During the review,Akhilesh had asked officers to blacklist companies that are supplying poor-quality transformers and take action against officers concerned.
The Dakshiranchal region of Power Department includes the districts of Aligarh,Agra,Mathura,Etah,Etawah,Kannauj,Mainpuri,Kanpur Dehat,Auraiya,Firozabad,Farrukhabad,Jaluan,Chitrakoot,Mahoba,Banda,Jhansi,Chitrakoot among others.
The blacklisted companies were those whose more than 15 per cent of transformers had become non-functional or had developed faults within two years of guarantee period. The Corporation has asked remaining regions to prepare similar lists and directed action on similar lines.
As for the two officers who were suspended,the Corporation informed that soon after the inspection of a 10 MVA transformer by them,the equipment developed a snag and during second inspection it was found to be below required technical specifications.
The CM also discussed the possibility of using new technology,especially for preventing line-losses. He asked officials to visit other states and explore technologies in this regard. He also asked them to look into the use of pre-paid meters in areas reporting high line-loss .
Akhilesh also instructed the officers to collect information on consumers in remote areas so that surprise checks about power supply can be carried out.
