Probe alleged links of Udaipur accused with BJP: Congress to NIA

Addressing a press conference, Congress media department chairman Pawan Khera accused the BJP of showing a “disturbing willingness to flirt with anti-national forces” and said the two incidents in the past week have exposed the BJP’s “double-face”.

The Congress Tuesday asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur last week, to look into allegations that one of the main accused, Mohammad Riyaz Attari, has links to the BJP.

The Congress, which last week alleged Attari was an active BJP worker, has stepped up its attack on the BJP after reports that Talib Hussain Shah, one of the Lashkar-e-Toiba militants arrested in J&K’s Reasi district on Sunday, had headed the IT and social media cell of the BJP Minority Morcha in Jammu. Questioning the silence of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on “such revelations”, the main opposition party accused the BJP of showing a “disturbing willingness to flirt with anti-national forces”.

In a letter to NIA Director General Dinkar Gupta, Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra said Attari had regularly been attending programmes of the BJP. “Photographs of him with the BJP MLA from Udaipar and senior leader Gulab Chand Kataria went viral on social media. According to the media, Attari was an active member of the BJP,” he wrote. Also mentioning Talib, Dotasra has told the NIA chief that such reports (of their alleged links to the BJP) have perturbed the people of the country and that, to dispel doubts, the NIA should expand the ambit of its investigation.

Addressing a press conference, Congress media department chairman Pawan Khera accused the BJP of showing a “disturbing willingness to flirt with anti-national forces” and said the two incidents in the past week have exposed the BJP’s “double-face”.

“It is shocking that the BJP, a party that loses no opportunity to preach to Indians about nationalism, has members and office-bearers who are deeply implicated in violent anti-national activities,” Khera said.

Khera also took a swipe at the BJP over its “atmanirbhar” slogan. “To stay in the mainstream, to come in the mainstream, how many fringe elements do you have? Nupur Sharma belongs to you, Riyaz Attari belongs to you, Talib Hussain belongs to you, it’s a truly atmanirbhar party, self-sufficient.
