Pune police crime branch Wednesday arrested Manoj Ashok Raut (28),younger brother of Yogesh Raut,for allegedly helping him escape from Sassoon General Hospital on September 17,2011. Yogesh is the prime accused in the gang-rape and murder of software techie Nayana Pujari.
Police said Manoj arranged a two-wheeler,money,food and clothes for his brother.
His name cropped up during investigation after Yogesh was arrested by the Anti-Dacoity Cell of the crime branch Friday.
Manoj was nabbed from Golegaon in Khed taluka of Pune district Tuesday evening.
On September 17,2011,Yogesh was shifted to Sassoon General Hospital from Yerawada prison. Here he gave the cops the slip. His brother and other family members were present at the hospital when he fled. A separate offence in this connection was lodged against Yogesh at the Bund Garden police
station.
We have recovered the motorcycle from Manoj which was used by Yogesh, said assistant commissioner of police (crime) Rajendra Bhamre. Police said Manoj also gave Rs 11,000 in cash along with a bag containing clothes and food to Yogesh after he fled from the hospital. Police said Yogesh went to Amritsar where he stayed under the name of Ravi Ashok Bhalla.
Manoj was produced before the magistrate court today. He has been remanded in police custody till
Friday.
Woman gives cops the slip
Navinga Manu Kadiwale (47),a suspect arrested by the Deccan police for allegedly cheating another woman,managed to escape from Sassoon
Hospital Wednesday morning.
Senior inspector Manohar Joshi of Deccan Police station,said Kadiwale was arrested based on a complaint by Pushpa More who was allegedly cheated by Kadiwale. According to Joshi,More was shown some pearls and said she could have them if she parted with her mangalsutra and other gold ornaments. More alleged she was hypnotised.
More was shocked to see sand in the packet and followed Kadiwale. After some distance,she saw Kadiwale trying to dupe another woman and raised an alarm,following which Kadiwale was nabbed and handed over to the cops. During interrogation,Kadiwale said she was suffering from high blood pressure,and sought medical attention. She was admitted to Sassoon Hospital. Next day she allegedly got up and told a woman constable she wanted to use the bathroom. On reaching the bathroom,she pushed the constable and fled.
