The state directorate of technical education is in the process of developing key performance indicators for the engineering colleges in the state to judge the performance of these colleges. Now,there is no system in place to judge quality of education in these colleges.
The DTE has convened a workshop on How to Transform Engineering Institutes in Maharashtra into World Class Level Institutions on Saturday at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, where heads of all the engineering colleges in the state will be present. Sangeeta Vaidya-Joshi,head of quality assurance cell,DTE briefed about the government plan. It is now the need of hour to focus strongly on the transformation of engineering institutions as people now demand world-class education for their wards. Conventional education practices must be reformed with more emphasis on research and technology upgradation to meet the prerequisites, said
She said despite the expansion that has occurred,it is evident the existing educational system is not able to keep pace with the rapidly changing demands of economy and modern industries.
To enhance the quality,it is required to set up the regulatory mechanism to gauge the performance of academic institutes. The state government is proposing to evaluate the performance of each engineering college in the state against the set key indicators of the government.We will set up a strategic action plan for reforming engineering institutes, Joshi said.
