The Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation (LMMF) has planned a 1000-bed super-speciality hospital at Nandoshi, off Sinhagad Road in Pune. Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, Trustee, LMMF, recently said that the effort was to build a comprehensive institute in legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s memory and will be known as Lata Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences (LMIMS). “Plans have been submitted to authorities for permission, and we hope to commence the work in December this year. The aim is to make it one of Asia’s largest hospitals,” Dr Kelkar told The Indian Express. Earlier, on September 28, on the occasion of Lata Mangeshkar’s 96th birth anniversary, her brother and music composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar had announced setting up the super-speciality hospital. At the ‘Mee Lata Dinanath’ program held in Pune, he said that the hospital would be built on 40 acres of land. The program was a musical tribute to Lata Mangeshkar’s timeless songs in Marathi and Hindi. Later, Dr Kelkar said that the foundation has been running Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Mai Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune for the past 24 years. “We hope to commence the work (on LMIMS)… with a target of early completion. Other medical facilities like rehabilitation hospital, psychiatric hospital, super-speciality medical hospital, museum and so on are currently being planned,” Dr Kelkar added.
