Woman sentenced for kidnapping two-year-old

Judicial Magistrate V U Misal sentenced a 42-year-old woman to three months simple imprisonment for kidnapping a two-year-old girl after her mother opposed the woman's marriage with her 26-year-old brother.

Judicial Magistrate (First Class) V U Misal sentenced a 42-year-old woman to three months simple imprisonment for kidnapping a two-year-old girl after her mother opposed the woman’s marriage with her 26-year-old brother.

According to public prosecutor Rajshree Kadam,the accused Sunanda Dayanand Sapa had an affair with Satish Sapa,the brother of complainant Suvarna,a resident of Bhavani Peth. Suvarna and her family had opposed the relationship. This enraged Sunanda,who kidnapped Suvarna’s daughter Vaibhavi from her nursery school on January 25 and threatened Suvarna not to interfere in her relationship with her brother. Suvarna’s family lodged a complaint with the police. Sunanda,who had fled to Kolhapur after Kidnapping Vaibhavi agreed to come back to the city after Suvarna’s family approved of her demands. The police nabbed her when she reached Pune railway station on January 27 and Vaibhavi was handed over to her parents. Depressed over the whole incident,Satish committed suicide on January 28. Kadam had examined a total of seven witnesses in the case.
