Puneites welcomed the light showers that lashed parts of the city early on Friday morning, bringing some respite after the initial spate of warm sun. Parts of the sky also remained overcast, bringing down both the maximum and minimum temperature.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, light showers were experienced in parts of Vidharbha,Marathwada and several other parts of the state. Duty officers at the IMD said the rainfall was mainly due to the local climatic condition, particularly increased precipitation, and had nothing to do with the summer thunder showers.

“For the past few days,Pune had seen a rise in temperature, with clouds forming over the city sky at night. This diurnal changes had increased the local precipitation and that had caused the rains,” the officer said.

The light rains in certain parts of the city helped lower the temperature, with Pune recording the lowest temperature in the state of 15.7.

The forecast for the next 48 hours shows light rains in parts of the city.
