Visitor opens fire on resident in Yerawada

An unidentified person opened fire on a 25-year-old man at his residence in Swatantra Sainik Nagar in Yerawada on Friday late evening.

An unidentified person opened fire on a 25-year-old man at his residence in Swatantra Sainik Nagar in Yerawada on Friday late evening.

Victim Balraj Avtarsingh Palsia lodged a complaint of attempt to murder at the Yerawada police station against two unidentified persons. Police said Palsia was playing video games at his home when some one knocked at the door. When Palsia opened the door,the visitor asked if he was Balli,to which Palsia replied in the affirmative.

Immediately,the person at the door opened fire on Palsia with a pistol that he was carrying. A bullet hit Palsia’s hand. The person fired one more bullet but Palsia managed to save himself. The assailant then ran towards a motorcycle parked near the house where his accomplice was waiting for him. The duo fled on the motorcycle. Palsia informed the police about the incident. He was admitted to a local hospital and discharged after treatment.

Assistant police inspector M B Khandale,who is investigating the case,said they are yet to get any clue. “Palsia is unmarried and is into pest control business. He was alone at his residence when the incident took place. Investigation is on,but so far the motive behind the firing is not known,” Khandale said.

Reacting to media reports on the increasing crime rate in Pune,the city police had started a major preventive action drive on April 21. Staff from all police stations and other branches were pressed into action. According to the figures obtained from the police commissionerate,in the last four days the police have taken preventive action against as many as 1,968 persons from different parts of the city.
