Vidya Vikas Mandal that runs Janata Prathamic Shala in Vishrantwadi has blamed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for closure of the school citing wrongdoings by the civic education board.
Yes we are closing down the school. This is all happening because of the wrongdoings by civic education board. The former education officer of the board Ramchandra Jadhav along with some teachers from the school indulged in wrongdoings and siphoned off money to the tune of Rs 1 crore. We are having trouble in paying salaries to teachers as we are an unaided school, said Antony Runanaware,Chairman,Vidya Vikas Mandal.
Last month, the parents of students studying at the school were in for a shock when they discovered that the school is closing down from the coming academic session.
The report cards that were given to the students last month mentioned that the primary school is closing down. Where will my daughter, who studies in Class IV,get admission now, said S Mahadik, whose other daughter studies in Class VIII at the same school.
The civic body, however, denied any wrongdoing by the board.
The school originally received grants. But for the past two-three years, they stopped accepting grants citing their unaided status. We have received various complaints of the school and last year we had sent a proposal to the government seeking an administrator to look into the day-to-day affairs of the school. A few days ago,we sent a fresh proposal seeking an administrator for the school, said Shivaji Daundkar,Education Officer of PMC.
Daundkar added,It is illegal to close down a school without a prior notice of six months. This is against the law and we will take action against the school if it does not open on June 17.
The trust is planning to convert the school into a semi-English medium school from this academic year.
The admissions will start on June 10. The 350-odd students studying at the school can apply for admissions afresh. Those who are not willing to pay the increased fees can get admitted to a neary PMC school. Some of the teachers will be retained, said Runanaware.
