Vandana Chavan was elected the city president of NCP for a second term on Tuesday. Her re-election assumes significance because in the past couple of party corporators have openly spoken against her. Political observers say Chavans second stint became possible because she is supposed to be a close aide of party supremo and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.
Chavans stance on the bio-diversity park and her objections about the recently passed development plan had angered several party corporators, especially those from fringe areas.
Many of the corporators, who are from the those areas, had complained how Chavan’s stance could amount to voters turning against the party. There were instances of corporators going to higher echelons of the party to complain about her, a senior party leader said.
