The University of Pune (UoP) is replete with rich collection of valuables,be it fossils at their zoology departments or the paintings and statues at their fine arts departments. With the aim of protecting these valuables, the UoP has proposed setting up an archive at the proposed Convention Centre.
At present, many departments have museums of their own. However, proper care is not taken of these valuables. Therefore,it was suggested in the UoPs new masterplan that a separate area be dedicated for this purpose at the proposed convention centre.
A budget of Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for setting up the convention centre. According to sources,a place will be dedicated inside the convention centre where the valuables will be put on show according to the departments.
Wasudev Gade, director,Board of College and University Development (BCUD),said,We have certain department-based museums which houses some really valuable artefacts. When the question of maintaining them was raised,we thought of dedicating a place inside the convention centre for this purpose.
The university will get an additional grant of Rs 1 crore from the University Grants Commission as part of their University with Potential For Excellence Programme.
