The city police arrested two engineering students for allegedly kicking a traffic policeman at Simla office junction in Shivajinagar around 11 am on Friday. The traffic cop,Ganpat Sakharam Walkoli,36,a resident of Kaveri Nagar Police Colony,Wakad,lodged the complaint with the Shivajinagar police.
The arrested,Lokesh Naresh Sharma,19,and Vinay Rajendra Agarwal,19,were residents of Siddhi Building,Wadgaon Budruk and Karve Nagar Tulshri Colony,respectively. Police said the suspects reached Simla office chowk on their two-wheeler and Lokesh who was riding pillion started shouting.
When Walkoli questioned Lokesh for causing nuisance,he abused and kicked him on the chest. They then tried to escape but their motorcycle slipped and they fell down. The local people nabbed them and handed them over to the police.
The teenagers have been booked under Section 353 (causing disturbance in government work) of the Indian Penal Code. Assistant police inspector Mahesh Sartape who is investigating the case,said the suspects were first year students of a reputed college. They were produced before a magistrate court on Saturday. Court remanded Lokesh in police custody for a day. While Agarwal was sent to magisterial custody.
