Last year, when Nirmika Singh was asked to participate in a travel-based reality show, she jumped at the opportunity. I was looking for a break from the monotony of work. The travel show wanted me to take a month-long trip based on the concept of Amazing Race, where the participants had to go on a treasure hunt in the bazaar, look for clues, jump into a lake, climb a mountain and more, says Singh. But travelling from Mumbai to Badrinath,Singh got more than just a break.
She shares that it was on this trip that she wrote the song,Shor Macha. The song, which talks about life and how one should make noise while it lasts, soon became the theme song for the show as well as the title song for her bands upcoming album. Getting set to perform in the city,Singh says her career in music began two-and-a-half-years ago when she moved to Mumbai and met keyboardist Andrew Ferrao, guitarist John Fernandes, bassist Cris Victor and drummer Sanjay Gupta. Working together on Singhs original music, they decided to call themselves Nirmika and A Few Good Men.
The 26-year-old says the album features a number inspired by her three-year-old niece who was trying to learn how to cycle. She was adamant that she wanted to learn how to cycle that day. Her perseverance inspired me, says Singh, who expressed her inspiration in a song titled Mujhe fikar kya. She captures more aspects of life in Jhoothe, which deals with the intricacies of telling lies.
The band will perform on Thursday at Hard Rock Café,8.30 pm onwards
