Traffic police collect Rs 2.33 lakh from ‘Operation Achanak’

The operation had started on November 8.

Pune traffic police took action against over 2,100 traffic rule offenders in a week-long drive of surprise actions named ‘Operation Achanak’ that concluded Friday. The operation had started on November 8.

A fine of Rs 2.33 lakh was collected during the drive.

Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said,“The drive was conducted following increasing number of accidents in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. We named it Operation Achanak (sudden) as the these actions were taken as surprise – many times at the spots where people won’t expect any action from us.”

During the drive police took action in cases of ‘no-entry’ violations,fancy number plates,parking in no-parking zones,signal jumping,riding on footpath,halts on zebra crossings,driving without seat belts and over-speeding. Pandhare added,“We will continue to conduct Operation Achanak in this way in coming days too.”
