Traffic hit as truck gets stuck in Pimpri grade separator

Traffic on the old Pune-Mumbai highway was affected on Tuesday morning after a truck carrying goods got stuck in the grade separator opposite the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation headquarters in Pimpri.

Traffic on the old Pune-Mumbai highway was affected on Tuesday morning after a truck carrying goods got stuck in the grade separator opposite the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters in Pimpri.

The PCMC has barred vehicles higher than 4.5 metres in height from using the grade separator. The municipal corporation has put up boards on the road in this regard. PCMC has handed over the rights of penalising offenders under the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act under which the traffic police penalised the driver of the truck.

Traffic police said the truck carrying goods was heading from Pune to Talegaon around 5.30 am . Apparently ignoring the signages, the driver drove the truck into the grade separator, which got stuck as the goods loaded on the truck were stacked up to more than 4.5 metres. The driver then tried to reverse the vehicle and the goods the truck was carrying fell on the highway.

The truck was finally removed from the grade separator around 8.30 am ,but the traffic flow was affected as goods were strewn about on the grade separator.

The road was cleared at around 3.30 pm ,police said. The truck owner Balasaheb Gade of Barshi,Solapur, was fined Rs 5,000 by the traffic police.
