Pune traffic cop dragged 100 metres after he stops bike without number plates; rider arrested

A traffic policeman in Pune was injured after he was dragged for around 100 metres in Hadapsar after he stopped a man riding a motorcycle without a number plate. The man was arrested after the policeman lodged a complaint, the police said on Friday.

The incident took place at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate area on Wednesday evening.

According to a police statement, traffic policeman Chetan Sulakhe, who is attached to the Loni Kalbhor traffic division, was on duty when he saw the accused Hrutik Prakash Hingne, 34, riding a motorcycle without any number plates. When Sulakhe stopped the motorcycle and asked Hingne to show his driving licence, Hingne accelerated and dragged Sulakhe for about 100 metres, the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at Hadapsar police station on Thursday states.

Hingne, a resident of Hingne Mala in Hadapsar, was arrested and booked under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt to any person being a public servant in the discharge of his duty) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Assistant Police Inspector Vilas Sutar, the investigating officer, said Hingne was sent to Yerwada jail as per a court order.
