Police have imposed traffic diversions on the Pune – Ahilyanagar highway in view of a massive gathering at ‘Jaystambh’ at Perne village to mark the 207th anniversary of the Battle of Koregaon Bhima on coming January 1.
Entry of all vehicles will be banned from Lonikand to Perne on the Pune – Ahilyanagar highway. Traffic will be diverted at Wagholi and Lonikand to alternate routes. Those coming from Pune side, should park their vehicles at the parking lot on Perne-Tulapur phata.
Similarly, entry of all vehicles will be banned from Shikrapur to Koregaon Bhima on the Pune – Ahilyanagar highway. Those coming from Marathwada districts – Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Ahilyanagar can reach till Shikrapur by their vehicles.
Visitors coming from Pune Solapur road via Theoor and Kesnand villages, can take their vehicles till the parking loats at Khandobacha Mala. Entry of all vehicles from this spot to Perne will be banned.
Visitors coming from Mumbai side can take their vehicles till Shikrapur via Talegaon Dabhade and Chakan road, where parking lots are available. Thereafter, the road will be blocked for traffic.
Vehicles of visitors from Nashik – Pune highway should go to Lonikand from Alandi Phata via Markal and Tulapur.
Vehicles would not be allowed to go from Wagholi to Vishrantwadi via Lohegaon from the afternoon of December 31 till January 1, stated a press release issued by the traffic control branch of Pune city police.
As many as 45 parking lots have been prepared for vehicles towards Perne from different routes. Visitors would be taken to the Jaystambh as well as to the historic Vadhu Budruk village near Koregaon Bhima by about 650 Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, police said.
Also, police have appealed to the people from Pune city to avoid using Pune Ahilyanagar highway on January 1 to prevent traffic jams.
