Three injured in clash between two groups

Three persons were seriously injured after two groups belonging to two different political parties fought with swords,metal rods and sticks on Saturday around 9 am.

Three persons were seriously injured after two groups belonging to two different political parties fought with swords,metal rods and sticks on Saturday around 9 am.

Two criminal cases have been registered at the Chinchwad police station. Though police have detained 10 to 12 persons,no arrests were made till late Saturday.

Two of the three injured persons have been identified as Laxman Mane (35) and Basavraj Birajdar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Shahaji Umap said,“We have come to know that these are workers of BJP and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

“The reason behind the fight seems to be past rivalry between the two groups. Two complaints have been registered by members of the two groups against each other.”

Police said 10 to 12 persons have been taken into custody. Police are now verifying their involvement in the incident and arrests will be made accordingly. Police said that some of the groups members entered houses of injured persons and assaulted them.

Tension prevailed in the area for sometime but the situation was brought under control after police teams were deployed in the area.
