I believe that Chetan Bhagat has not been given the credit he deserves since the basic plot of the movie is taken from the book. Though the credits at the end of the movie do mention that the movie is based on the book ‘Five Point Someone’,the placement of this credit is definitely not prominent enough. It is sorry to see that despite the mind boggling success of the movie,Aamir and Vidhu Vinod Chopra are involved in a baseless argument with him; which in my opinion,is a mere publicity stunt to attract more attention. This is has happened many a times before. This is Bollywood.

Making some changes in the script won’t change the whole concept. The movie,3 Idiots is an exact copy of the book ‘Five Point Someone’ by Chetan Bhagat. The filmmakers are not acknowledging this enough, which in my view is not the right thing to do. I give the credit totally to Chetan Bhagat and hope Vidhu Vinod Chopra realises the mistake he has done.

Of course there are similarities between the book and the movie. The incident where Kareena’s brother dies because of not becoming an engineer is there in both the book and the movie. There are more of such incidences, but they are a few. The truth is that the movie is a comedy and the book is far more serious. They have a few similarities and a lot of differences.

The movie and the book intersect at some points but I feel this controversy is groundless. The very fact that this movie is inspired by the book has been acknowledged. Chetan Bhagat’s book might be a base but what has been built up is entirely different. Vidhu Vinod Chopra has taken few chunks of the book and that is all.

I must say this conflict is a waste of time. All this is benefiting the book and the movie both. The movie is an adaptation of the book and in my opinion this controversy is being generated for mere publicity. The book is famous and so is the movie, but they will sell like hot cakes after all this. The book and the movie co exist. I feel it is not appropriate on the part of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Chetan Bhagat to involve themselves in such controversies; they both need to accept each other’s efforts.
