The Third Eye

After having released in 2D,‘Sons of Ram’,will now be released in stereoscopic 3D

First it was the Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) title ‘Sons of Ram’,which was followed by the animated film. Now,Mumbai-based Maya Studios will be converting the same film into Stereoscopic 3D. “It will be the first ever animated Indian film to have a released in 400 theatres across the nation,” says Devdatta Potnis, head, marketing and distribution,Maya Studios.

‘Sons of Ram’ was first released in October 2011 by ACK Media and had got positive reviews for its well-etched animation. “Previously too,we had a wide release for Ramayana – The Epic and the film did really well even in the international markets, including countries like Germany,Thailand and Indonesia. For the 3D version,we are looking at 200 cinema screens across

North America and key European markets for the film,” says Potnis. The work on the conversion began in July and will end by September.

The highlight of the newer version is the use of the technique that completely eliminates eye strain while watching the movie. “We used two computer generated cameras to generate the 3D shots. The distance in between these two cameras was maintained to be as per the distance in between the two human eyes. Usually eye strain happens because this distance isn’t maintained properly, which leads to the creation of ghost images,” says Hemant Shinde, head of 3D stereoscopy department,Maya,

‘Sons of Ram’ tells the story of Luv and Kush and their journey through enchanted forests into Ayodhya. In addition to the new format ,the film will also have four new original songs . Shinde adds that the team has also used Depth Mapping for conversion,a technique followed by all international animated studios. “The storyline is compelling and powerful and the 3D experience will only enhance the same,” adds Shinde.

‘Sons of Ram’ will be released on November 2.
