The world is becoming smaller, and there are few places on earth which can remain isolated, untouched by the outside. Today,Nigerian-born,London-based musician,Jacob Abrahams aka Jahcub ,will collaborate with several Indian artistes for the first time at High Spirits,Koregaon Park.
Calling the musical collective The Chosen Ones Project, the biggest reason why Jahcub is here is to spread awareness about the culture of his homeland,Nigeria. My country has a very vibrant and exciting music scene. Unfortunately,I feel it gets ignored because of the high levels of corruption there, he says.
Having lived in two musical hotspots Africa and London,Jahcubs music has elements across various genres jazz, reggae, and rock. Influenced by musicians like Bob Marley,The Beatles and Eric Clapton,Jahcub wants to write lyrics that are different from the usual subjects like love. My music deals with the triumph of the everyday man in various facets of life. Essentially street music,it is very truthful. I write about what happens to the common person everyday, and the little things in life he does to keep afloat in the tide, he explains.
Performing for only the second time in the country,Jahcub came down to India because he heard of a great musical tradition here. I came down to India so that I could learn from the artistes here. After staying here for a few months,I felt that the best way to learn further would be to actually perform with the artistes, he says.
