Telecom companies running offers enabling you to win a Chevrolet car or even giving discounts on call rates are not doing it for nothing. With telecom sector seeing a sharp fall in revenues and per minute usage of subscribers also witnessing decline, the companies have come up with some irresistible packages to woo customers.

All major companies in the city have the discount or reward schemes on offer. The service providers say that the sector has become highly competitive and with margins falling they have to run such schemes. Tata Docomo recently organised a road show on its offer jeet ki ghanti kabi bhi baj sakti hai (the winning bell may ring anytime). The offer provides an opportunity to its customers to win prizes as grand as a Chevrolet beat car and bikes to even free talk time.

Tata Teleservices Ltd,chief operating officer,Anand Iyer, said,“The treat of winning Chevrolet beat car each day and Yamaha bikes every hour has been received well by our customers. We would continue with such contests.”

Companies say that prize offers are helping them win over new customers. Uninor’s offer of free local calls between its customers has helped the company increase its subscriber base.

Rajeev Sharma, circle business head,Maharashtra and Goa,Uninor, said,“In the past 6-7 months,we have doubled our subscriber base and the current subscriber base in Maharashtra and Goa circle is 3.1 million.”
