Techie fights chain-snatchers,gets her gold chain back

An alert software engineer on Friday got back her gold chain from the clutches of two chain-snatchers and also helped the police nab the duo.

An alert software engineer on Friday got back her gold chain from the clutches of two chain-snatchers and also helped the police nab the duo.

On Friday evening,two persons on a motorcycle snatched the chain of Archana Sadanand Limaye (34) in front of Sumitra Hotel at Karishma Chowk on Karve Road. However,before they could flee,Limaye caught hold of one of them by the hand.

The motorcycle skid as the road was slippery after rain. Limaye shouted for help,and traffic constable Gaikwad who was on duty at the Karishma Chowk rushed forth and nabbed the two chain-snatchers.

Police have identified the duo as Krishna Balu Gunjal (30) of Ramoshi Wadi and Ravi Shetty Dhotre (33) of Janwadi. The Kothrud police arrested the duo under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.

Assistant inspector A D Walimbe,who is investigating the case,said,“Limaye is a resident of Karishma Society on Karve Road.

She is a software engineer and works in a firm in Hinjewadi. On Friday evening,she got down from the company bus and was walking towards her residence when the two motorcycle-borne youths snatched her chain worth Rs 45,000 around 8.30 pm.”

“Limaye got hold of the chain snatcher’s hand. There was a scuffle between Limaye and the chain-snatchers as they tried to flee the spot on their motorcycle. However,the vehicle skidded on the wet road. Soon,our traffic policeman who heard Limaye shouting rushed to the spot and nabbed them,” said Walimbe.

Investigation revealed that the suspects had used a stolen vehicle for committing the crime.
