Talking point with Aman verma

Namak Haraam is your first big show after a long time. Why were you keeping a low profile for so long? I finished working for Sujata, which aired on Sony, only last December.

Namak Haraam is your first big show after a long time. Why were you keeping a low profile for so long?
I finished working for Sujata, which aired on Sony, only last December. After that,I wanted to take some time off from work. Since 1999 and 2000,I’ve been working continuously without taking a break even for a day. I would finish one project and then start another. After Sujata,I wanted to take some time off and see what it feels like to take a break.

This is your second pairing with Narayani Shastri after Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. What is it like working with her again in Namak Haraam?
It’s great working with her again. We understand each other well. It’s great fun working with her and we’re looking forward to a better show with Namak Haraam.

Both in Kyunki and Namak Haraam, you’ve been introduced as the second man, never the main love interest. What prompted you to take such roles?
I’ve done many other shows where I’ve been the main protagonist. Kyunki was such a big show that there was no way I could refuse the role. In the end,it’s the role that matters. I would rather act in three episodes of a show where I have a meaty role, than 300 episodes of a show with no substantial role.

Are there any particular kind of shows that you would like to anchor?
After Indian Idol,I’ve anchored shows on Sahara and then Zee,so I’ve been doing anchoring on and off. The thing about Indian audiences is that they have voracious appetites to lap up different kinds of shows. So if they like game shows today, tomorrow they might like reality shows. Everything changes with time,so to be part of the future, you have to do what people like. They don’t have loyalties to any show. So they might stick to your show if they like it,and then move on to something else.

After Baghban, are you still looking at any movie projects?
Yes,of course. Right now,the industry is facing a lull period with the recession, the corporates backing out and the multiplexes and the producers at loggerheads. Every one is adopting a wait-and-watch policy. I am working on a film with Mehul Kumar where he is launching his daughter. I think,it’s called Krantiveer 2.
