(Express Photo)Symbiosis International (Deemed) University from Pune has ranked 200 in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026 released on November 4, the best position achieved by universities based in the city. Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), a major public university in Maharashtra, achieved a rank of 207, a drop from the 173rd position it achieved in the 2025 rankings.
Symbiosis achieved an overall score of 52.2. It scored 57.3 marks in the Staff with PhD parameter and 47.6 in the Faculty Student Ratio parameter. The university scored 36.3 in Academic Reputation, 12.2 in Papers per Faculty, and 8.9 in citations per paper parameters. Symbiosis had a mix of 89 per cent domestic students and 11 per cent international students, much higher than the other city-based universities in the fray. Symbiosis had achieved a rank of 216 in the 2025 rankings and a rank range of 261-270 in 2024 rankings.
SPPU achieved an overall score of 50.6. It achieved a score of 87.2 in the Staff with PhD parameter and a score of 64.2 in the Faculty Student Ratio. The university had achieved a rank of 210 in the 2024 rankings, which improved to 173 in the 2025 rankings and has now come close to its previous position at 207. The university has 98 per cent domestic students and 2 per cent foreign students.
Amongst other universities in Pune, Dr D Y Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), Pimpri, Pune, (Deemed to be University) ranked 569 while Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be) University ranked in range of 1001-1100. In the 2025 rankings, Bharati Vidyapeeth ranked in range of 851-900.
