
An offence of cheating and forgery has been registered against Sachin Chandrakant Dangat (30),the main accused in the murder of Rahul Nair on the Pune district and sessions court premises a year ago,after Dangat submitted a fake medical certificate to prove his alibi. Dr Sham Narayan Bankar of the primary health centre of Madh village in Junnar near Pune,who allegedly issued the fake certificate,has also been booked.
Dangat,Sukesh Suresh Dangat (28) and Umesh Ashok Deshmukh (24) were arrested by the police on August 29. In his defence,Sachin had submitted that he was not on the court premises on the day of murder and was undertaking medical treatment in Junnar on that day. He even produced a medical certificate from Madh village primary health centre to prove his alibi. But police investigations revealed that the certificate was fake and the register entry at the PHC was also tampered by Dr Bankar, said advocate Debajyoti Talukdar,counsel for Rahul Nairs mother Shamala Nair.
Rahul Nair,25,had come to the court on May 6,2010 to witness the trial proceedings in the murder case of Dehu Road cable operator Kumar Dangat who was allegedly shot dead by six people at Kiwale village in August 2008. He was hacked to death,allegedly by Kumars supporters,behind the small causes court building around 2 pm. Nair was an acquaintance of Rahim Shaikh,the main suspect in Kumars murder. A few months ago,Nair was beaten up by Kumars younger brother Sachin and a few others. The Shivajinagar police filed a chargesheet against suspects Ankush Pawar,Rakesh Deshmukh,Amol Jagtap and Siddheshwar Shelke on July 23,2010.
