A mix between house and progressive house with lots of percussion. That’s the music that will take Mi A Mi at the Marriott Hotel & Convention Centre to an all new decibel level today. Berlin-based DJ Thomas Gold, who ranks amongst the world’s top DJs,will bring his groove to the city’s clubbing scene with this gig. His signature style also includes some minimal and techy elements in his tracks and mixes. “I love mixing them all up to create my own kind of vibe. So if you listen to my sets, there might be a very poppy vocal but underneath there’s a deep techy groove going on,” says Gold.

Gold’s inspiration comes from the music he listens to at home, the synthesizer sounds in his studio or from other DJs who play at clubs. “Every situation can be inspiring. Sometimes when I’m waiting at the airport,I get an idea about a melody or a sound and very often it’s just a certain vibe which brings some ideas,” he says. He has ridden the elevator of hard work to the top. “It has taken time and there was (and still is) a lot of work on the way! When I’m at home,I spend all my time in the studio doing new music; I work on my laptop studio when I’m travelling and of course I try to give people the best time of their life when I play my gigs,” he quips. Other music producers aren’t competition for him. “They’re a kind of challenge. It can be very inspiring and motivating to see what others do,” he adds.

Gold has played in India once before and he loved it. “I can’t wait to play tonight,” he says. His sets differ according to the crowd he’s playing to. “I might do different sets in clubs than I do at festivals because there is a different kind of energy. But generally speaking,I try to keep my own style and not venture too far from what I usually do,” he says.

Gold just finished a new track with his buddy Dirty South at the latter’s studio in Los Angeles. “I am also working on the release of my track ‘Sing2Me’ which will be out soon on Axtone. I’m quite excited about that,” he says. He’s also working on a bunch of new ideas and tracks, another collaboration and maybe a remix. “I have done so many fantastic shows and festivals this year. I had the chance to play with the real big ones like the Swedish House Mafia. I just love what I’m doing,” he says.

For him, playing music is a privilege. “It’s my love for music which keeps me going. Every day I get up and I am happy that I have the chance to make my life with making music. I can’t think of doing anything better!” he signs off.
