VJ Juhi speaks about the reality television series she is currently hosting, her passion for VJing and why she cannot stop talking

Constraints are probably a wrong way to describe the larger than life and the constantly-hopping-around persona of VJ Juhi. Seated quietly, for a chat,it is her eyes that give away her bubbling persona. After the initial pleasantries are done, she jumps into her real self and announces her arrival,in full throttle.

“I hate being confined to a particular place,or method,or a routine. Normal mundane things disinterest me as easily as they do a child. It is probably a reason as to why I have always been doing things in an unplanned manner. Its more fun this way,” says Juhi.

In the city to host the television reality series In Your Fest, which is a campus festival based reality show, she says,“The concept of the show really intrigued me because no one has ever documented the happenings behind the stage of what goes into making a college cultural event a success. The pitfalls, the meetings, the strategies, the fights, the plans, all make for an interesting watch. Besides,it also shows the imperfect side of a seemingly perfect college festival. Also,I was a very lazy person in college and I never took interest in organising college festivals so I guess as a host this is my chance at redemption. ”

The Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication’s annual college festival,Fest O Comm is the setting for the show, which will hit the tube this Friday onwards. Speaking about her role in the show she says,“I am the sutradhaar. I link the different happenings of the show and explain to the audience what is happening and what can they expect to see in the future episodes.”

“VJ’ing didn’t happen overnight. I had been doing a whole lot of jobs before finally settling here. I worked in a modeling agency; a call centre and a whole lot more. However when I finally landed here as a VJ it struck me as to how much creative freedom one had. More than that I realised this was one of the very few professions where I could speak totally useless stuff, laugh at my own bad jokes and yet get away without a bashing. I was being paid to talk which I love a lot,so hey who’s complaining,” she adds with the air of a philosopher.

“Pearls of wisdom for the youth…hmm that’s a tough one, considering that I do not advice people about anything, but yeah they can just be themselves and be proud of who they are. Rather than be an ape,you might as well be a smart monkey,” she adds with an air of finality.
