Having delivered some memorable dance sequences in movies like Taal and Dil To Pagal Hai,he made a place for himself in Bollywood long back. His latest one to hit the promos is the song Make a wish choreographed on Amitabh Bachchan and Ritiesh Deshumukh from the film Aladin. But theres more which is keeping Shiamak Davar busy these days. He is all set to launch World Dance Concept in the city through Winter Funk 09 from October 4.
Briefing on his latest introduction he says,World Dance Concept aims to bring together dance forms from across the world on one common platform. Students will be given a first-of-its-kind opportunity of learning conventional western dance techniques, traditional Indian dance forms along with street styles, folk dances from across the globe.
Giving most of his time to his dance institute Shiamak Davars Institute for the Performing Arts (SDIPA) and Victory Arts Foundation (VAF),a non-profit organisation,Davar is consciously not signing any movies at the moment. My sole aim is to share the joy of dance with as many people as possible and thats the only thing I am concentrating on right now, says he.
Having been a part of the reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa,Davar is happy with the boom in reality television. He feels that such shows gives people a national platform to display their talents and help unknown talented individuals get instant recognition and immense visibility. Davar has recently signed a new dance based reality show called Dance Premier League. It is a unique format and will have zonal teams competing against each other and each holding a unique logo, brand ambassador, cheer leaders and merchandise. I play the role of an Umpire in this show, where I am supposed to give my guidance and final veto to the contesting teams. I strongly believe that a show of this grand magnitude is sure to extract the best talent from the country, says Davar.
Davar, who has spent more than a decade in the film industry, feels that the choreographers today have much more exposure to global dance forms and that reflects in their movie choreography as well. Even movie producers and directors today are willing to experiment with new choreographers and that has added a strong element of freshness to choreography in Indian Cinema, concludes Davar.
