Meanwhile, students were also worried about their eligibility for the semester exams, scheduled in November.
EXAMINATION DEPARTMENT of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has once again come under the scanner for its alleged faulty evaluation. About 30 engineering students have been protesting at the varsity since October 27, claiming that their scores have not improved even after re-evaluation.
Students alleged “inappropriate checking” of a paper — Strength of Material (SOM), a common subject for civil and mechanical engineering. A student, requesting anonymity, said, “Our revaluated scores for Mathematics-3 and Basic Mechanics papers have not improved.”
Soon after the declaration of results of the examinations held in April-May this year, it was learned that maximum number of students had failed in SOM. This led to students seeking a model answer sheet, on the basis of which the evaluation will be carried out. A student added, “When we cross checked the answer model, we found that four questions accounting to 25 marks had incorrect answers. So, even after re-evaluation, there was no change in the marks of many students.”
An official statement issued by the university read, “The students’ concerns have been heard. We are investigating the matter and will resolve it soon.” None of the officials could be reached for comments.
Meanwhile, students were also worried about their eligibility for the semester exams, scheduled in November. A second year student said, “Since we have not cleared multiple papers, we will not be able to appear for the upcoming semester exam. All our hopes of clearing them after re-evaluation have been lost.”
