Pune FC takes on in-form Viva Kerala
Pune FC will need to be cautious of an in-form Viva Kerala if they are to extend their three-match unbeaten streak in the I-League 2010-11 at the Balewadi Stadium on Saturday. PFC is currently on the ninth position and has played a game lesser than Viva Kerala which is 12th with 11 points to their credit. The home side will be playing after a 21-day break and as Coach Derrick Pereira put it,The period was just right for injured players to recover and the rest to get their focus back after starting the season early. Having beaten Viva twice last season,PFC this season literally survived the away game when Sunil Kumar netted a last-gasp injury time equalizer for the game to end 1-1.
6th Abhijit Kadam Football from February 27
Four Second Division I-League teams of the forthcoming season have confirmed their participation for the sixth edition of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup that will be held at Bharati Vidyapeeth Education Complex Ground,Dhankawdi,from February 27 to March 8. Shillong Lajong and Sportting Club de Goa – that figured in the elite I-League in 2009-10 – Guwahati Town Club,Assam and Golden Threads,Kerala complete the fancied team line-up. The other teams include,Simla Youngs,New Delhi,JCB Bhillai Brothers and Abhijit Kadam Memorial Shield winners Pata Kadil Talim Mandal and runners up Amanora Deccan XI.
Symbiosis wins PSAA inter-school tennis
Symbiosis school won the over all championships at PSAA Inter School Tennis winning four of the eight events organised by the Vikhe Patil Memorial School at Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts. Shubankar Hardikar of Symbiosis scored a 7-2 win over Nikhil Pradhan to win the Boys under 12 title. In the Boys under 14 event,Symbiosis player Aditya Deshpande scored a 7-1 win over Atharva Iyer of VPMS. Symbiosis also lifted the Boys Under 12 team event blanking out Kalmadi Shamrao 3-0 and the Boys under 14 team event outplaying St Vincents school 3-0.
