Corporate Cricket Championship to begin today
The fifth edition of the ABIL Corporate Cricket Championship will kick off on the March 14 and conclude on April 21. As many as 16 teams will battle it out for the trophy with matches being played on weekends. The tournament will be played on a league-cum-knockout format with the 16 teams divided into four groups. The teams are Jain Irrigation,Mather and Platt,Sakal Group,Infosys,Axis,Mahesh Bank,Cognizant,KPIT,Trigon,PMC,Vistacore and Indian Overseas Bank. The championship will offer a total prize fund of Rs 7 seven lakh. Awards for the best batsman,best bowler and best fielders will also be given.
Seolekar wins golf tourney
Rohan Seolekar and Dhananjay Paranjape won titles in the silver and bronze category,respectively,of the Liviano Golf Tournament. Nearly 100 players participated in the event. Seolekar emerged the champion in the silver category,which was for players with a handicap between 0-18. Seolekar finished with a score of 43 in the event played in Stableford format,two clear of Deepak Bhat who finished second. Rishi Kshetri finished second runner-up,a point behind Bhat. Paranjape clinched the title in the bronze category,which was for players with a handicap between 19-36. Paranjape finished with a score of 41,beating Rahul Mundada by two points. Kanishka Lunkad ended up as the second runner-up,three points behind Mundada. Asha Karve,with a score of 36,turned out to be the overall winner in the womens category. A golf clinic,headed by reputed coach Aditya Kanitkar,was also conducted to provide guidance to beginners. Awards were given to best students,including Ravi Chaddha,Sagar Hegde and Yashoda Gohade.
Infosys,Barclays set up final showdown
Infosys and Barclays entered the final of the Inter-IT cricket tournament after comprehensive wins over their respective opponents in the semi-finals. In the first of the two semis,SoftHard won the toss and elected to bat against Infosys. However,SoftHards decision backfired as they lost all their wickets for just 102 runs in 22.1 overs. Prashant Panwar was the pick of the Infosys bowlers with his figures of three wickets for 19 runs. Infosys knocked off the target in just 7.1 overs and that too without losing a single wicket. Gaurav Singh hammered an aggressive half century,remaining unbeaten on 51. Hrishikesh Matsye gave him company,stroking an elegant 41. In the second semi-final,ADP won the toss and elected to bat against Barclays. ADP managed 151 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Sumit Singh was ADPs top-scorer as he scored 42 runs. Abhishek Pol chipped in with 21. Barclays chased the target in 18.4 overs with Sunil Patel compiling 52,studded with seven boundaries and two sixes. Kanishk Singhs unbeaten 49 took Barclays into the final that will be played on March 16 at the Ammunition Factory ground in Khadki.
Bodybuilding Championship on Sunday
The Pune Shree 2013 Bodybuilding championships will be held at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch,Nehru Stadium,on March 17. The event will be organised by the Pune District Body Builders Association under the aegis of the Maharashtra Body Builders Association. President of the Pune District Body Builders Association Bapu Ganla and association chairman Parikshit Thorat said over 150 bodybuilders would vie for the Pune Shree 2013 title apart from a cash award of Rs 21,000 and a trophy. The events will be held in the 55,60,65,70,75,80 and above 80 kg categories. Winners in each category will be awarded Rs 5,000,while the runners-up will be given Rs 3,000. The third position holder will get Rs 2,000,while the one finishing fourth will get Rs 1,000. The most improved bodybuilder will get an award of Rs 7000,while the best poser will get Rs 5,000.
Sane elected president of BITOA
Maharashtras Uday Sane has been elected president of the Badminton India Technical Officials Association (BITOA) for a two-year term from March 2013 to February 2015. Girish Natu has been elected senior vice-president. The elections were held at Chirala in Andhra Pradesh in the first week of March.
Shivajians,Deccan XI enter semis
DSK Shivajians and Deccan XI entered the semifinals of the Mayors Cup football tournament being organised by the Poona District Football Association at Dhobarwadi ground,Hadapsar. In the quarterfinals on Wednesday,DSK Shivajians A thrashed Pune City Police 3-0,while Deccan XI A scored an emphatic 3-0 win over Ghorpadi Tamil United.
