The Pune International Marathon will be held on December 2. The 27th edition of the marathon will have a prize money of Rs 25 lakh. The marathon will have five categories — men’s full marathon (42.12 km),women’s and men’s half marathon (21 km) and the men’s and women’s 10 km run.

The registration for the marathon will begin on October 21 and end on November 10. The registration fees for the full marathon are Rs 750,Rs 500 for the half marathon and Rs 300 for the 10-km run. The registration forms are available at Marathon Bhavan and online at http://www.marathonpune.com

Maharashtra begin Vinoo Mankad Trophy campaign in style

Maharashtra began their Vinoo Mankad U-19 Trophy campaign with a win against Saurashtra in the West Zone qualifiers in Ahmedabad. Saurashtra batting first scored 245 for six in their allotted 50 overs. Opener Snell Patel scored a fluent 150. However,none of the other batsmen with the exception Jasmin Sitpara (41) have managed a considerable score. Mohsin Sayyed was excellent with the ball for Maharashtra bowling 12 overs giving away just 39 runs and picking up three wickets. Jagdish Zope picked up two wickets giving away 47 runs in eight overs. Maharashtra openers Jay Pande and Vijay Zol started off well before Pande perished for 42 runs. Zol kicked on in the company of skipper Nikhil Naik with both batsmen scoring half-centuries. Zol was dismissed for 79,but Naik and Shubham Ranjane (56) successfully chased down Saurashtra’s score in 48.4 overs.

Army Red team bags Inter-Services Cross Country Championship

The Army Red team,the defending champions of the Inter-Services Cross Country Championship bagged the championship this year. The Army Green and Indian Air Force teams won the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. The 43rd edition covering 12 km was conducted at INS Shivaji,Naval Base,Lonavala on October 19. Commodore PJ Rangachari,Station Commander,Lonavala Area was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was conducted to select services team for the forthcoming national championship.

Maharashtra U-25 team post 426

Maharashtra posted 426 runs in the first innings of the U-25 CK Nayudu Trophy,Elite group B match against Jammu and Kashmir being played at the Topiwala school ground in Malwan. Rahul Tripathi scored 144 with 18 hits to the fence and three sixes. Ankit Bawne scored 69,while Shrikant Mundhe chipped in with 62. Jammu and Kashmir began on an emphatic note,with openers Iandev Singh and Adil Reshi looking comfortable against the Maharashtra bowlers. Singh and Reshi both compiled fifties before Chirag Khurana trapped Singh leg before for 52. At stumps Jammu and Kashmir were 188 for four. Chirag Khurana took two wickets for Maharashtra. Jammu and Kashmir trail by 238 runs going into Day 3.
