Officials of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) feel grade separators have effectively eased the traffic on busy roads and helped smooth operation of buses,on routes where they ply.
Grade separators between Kasarwadi and Nigdi in PCMC areas and the one that has recently been made operational at Sancheti Chowk have, for example, greatly reduced the traffic congestion in these areas. Apart from removing the signal from Sancheti Chowk, they also help in easing congestion on other adjacent lanes. Vehicles travelling through the signal now dont need to enter the supportive lanes, thus reducing traffic congestion in other lanes as well, said PMPML spokesperson Deepak Pardeshi, adding that the role of traffic police has also become very important to ensure the grade separators help ease the traffic.
Merely constructing grade separators will not solve the traffic woes. Traffic police should also effectively route the traffic through and around the grade separators for them to be effective, said Pardeshi. He said the newly proposed grade separators in Baner shnould help make the buses more smooth and faster.
Several bus routes run through Baner, particularly Katraj-Telegaon,Katraj-Hinjewadi and Katraj-Nigdi. The new grade separators that are coming up at Ganraj Mangal Karyala,Balewadi Phata,Someshwar Phata and Baner Phata will surely help quicken the services, said Pardeshi.
However,Pardeshi said its important that the construction work is carried out at a fast pace as prolonged work in the area will cause greater inconvenience to commuters, who are now forced to travel in a more round-about routes due to construction work.
