Shooting star
Even champions need to participate in trials before making it to the big stage. And so was the case with Olympic gold-medalist Abhinav Bindra who was in town,to participate in the shooting trials for the Commonwealth Games,to be held in October in Delhi this year. As a mark of honour a get-together was organised at Courtyard by Marriott on Saturday that saw Bindra become the centre of attraction for the evening. The evening saw the ace Rifle shooter mix freely with the assembled guests as they spoke to him about the sport and his love for it and the finer nuances of the sport.
Golden music
As people grow older,they tend to reminisce aboutmusic from the good old days. And on Saturday,Velvette Ropes,organised a ‘Retroaneous’ night that was aimed at returning to classics of the music world. The event,which showcased the art of some of the greatest musicians of the last century,bought back to life the musical works of these stars of yesteryears back with panache,and flair. The evening saw songs,by stars like Tom Jones,John Denver,the Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney,and Elvis Presley,being performed for the audiences. Other famous musicians whose music treats were on offer included the likes of Donna Summer,Engelbert Humperdinck,Rod Stewart and Air Supply.
Free skies
Most movies are successful if they deal with pressing social issues in a subtle way. And doing just that was the the Marathi film movie Zale Mokale Akash that premiered on Friday. The film,which deals with various social issues all together in one go,keeps an important focus on issues like child adoption,raising many children,and little touched upon and often avoided topics like abnormality in children. The Subodh Bhave Pallavi Vaidya starer is produced by Suvarnaa Rajendra and directed by Rajendra Anant and Yogesh Mahajan.
