As the festive season draws near,a Christmas concert called Gloria Deo is being organised at Ishanya Amphitheatre today. Two prominent bands will be performing at the concert — ManHu and Native Tongue. ManHu,which is Hebrew for ‘what is it’,was formed at the end of 2005. Janis Zabaks is the leader and author of most songs played by ManHu and is based out of Latvia. However,since early 2009,Manhu has been based in Amsterdam,The Netherlands. The other band,Native Tongue says their songs deal with hate,sunshine,corruption,god,city life,split personalities and in their own words,they sing ‘strictleee’ in ‘englihhhsss’.

Music galore
The three-day-long Sudarshan Music Festival will be held at the Sudarshan Rangmanch from December 11 to 13,6.30 pm onwards. While on Friday,Dec 11,Ravindra Parchure will present Rasa-Daas – a concert of bandish-es composed by Agra Gharana maestro Pt Arun Kashalkar,on Saturday,Dec 12,Pritam Bhattacharji will hold a special concert Bandish Bahar. And on the final day of the festival,on Sunday,Dec 13,Anuradha Garud and disciples will present a thematic concert Tarana Tattwa describing the origin,varieties and nuances of Tarana.

Electrifying night
Destiny of Sounds is bringing to the city The Bombay Elektrik Projekt and Reaktiv Sounds for an evening of musical extravaganza. The club party,being held at 1 Lounge,Koregaon Park today from 6 pm onwards will feature DJ Pramz and DJ Russel,rock the crowds with their characteristic styles. The night will mainly see House,Electronica and Techno being played. Bombay Elektrik Projekt is also actively involved in local community-based workshops on dance,music and art at college festivals and since January this year,they’ve completed more than 50 events.

The British connection
British library celebrated its 50th anniversary on Tuesday. A lucky draw contest was announced for all the members who enrolled between September 29 to November 29 on the occasion. Zelam Chaubal,director,Kesari Tours Pvt Ltd was invited to the library to select the Winner. Abhimanyu Kharote got lucky with the draw and won a trip to London.

Healing ragas
The magic of ragas will unveil in front of the audiences on Monday. The Cipla Centre Hospital has organised a classical music programme at 10.30 am at Cipla Centre wherein Amol Dongre will be presenting ragas such as- Madhuwanti,Kalyan,Pahadi Dhun and so on. “Instead of playing traditional Alap,Jod and Jhala I’ll be performing only Alap and Jod because as it creates a soothing ambiance. Healing by music is widely used nowadays for diseases like Blood pressure,Diabetes and so on and I am hopeful that it will work positively in case of diseases such as cancer as well,” says Dongre. He has earlier experimented music therapy session at Yerwada mental hospital.
