In black and white
The Tilting Art Gallery at the Ishanya mall was the setting for the inauguration of the exhibition of noted charcoal artist Ajay De. Aptly titled A date with De the exhibition was inaugurated by Tulsi Tanti, managing director,Suzlon Energy and Nawaz Modi Singhania, fitness professional and a charcoal artist. Speaking about his exhibition De says,Charcoal unlike other mediums is a very difficult for painting because all expressions are expressed only in black and white and there is no margin for error as they cannot be corrected using acrylics. As far as my inspiration for the paintings go they are mostly parts from my own life, and how I have seen life through my eyes and my imagination as to how people around me view life through their own eyes. Speaking about his inspirations,he further says,Another very important factor that influences me is the Japanese culture. I have a great love for the Japanese way of living. As far as using colours in my paintings,I used to do acrylic and oil paints earlier but now however I do only charcoal. In order to add a dash of colour to the back and whites I do make it a point to incorporate a little bit of colour in the pictures. The exhibition will be on from April 6 to April 20.
