What can be better than sipping some funky cocktails on the first weekend of the New Year?
It has been a week-long party and the revelry hasn’t ended yet. After all,it’s the first weekend of 2011 and restaurants and lounges are serving up exotic cocktails and funky recipes. And partygoers are making the most of this delicious drinks menu.
By drinks, what instantly comes to mind are wines, champagnes and cocktails. And keeping the base same, many bars are experimenting with new flavours. Ashis Pandey of Kwality restaurants,East Street, says that they are making a lot of Champagne-based cocktails. One of the drinks, called the Sparkling Concept, has a mixture of tequila,creme-DE-mint and champagne. Another drink, the Caddy Night contains bourbon and whiskey, while the Ohio Cocktail has red vermouth and triple sec, he says.
Juggling and mixing recipes seems to be what most people are doing, and guests are lapping it up. Shailendra Kekade of Stone Water Grill says,This year,I have got my hands on many new flavours like Moroccan Coffee liqueur,Pilabas,Cherry liqueur,Luxardo, cherry Daiquiri. I am also making shooters with funny names like ‘Sex in the Hell’,which is somewhat similar to the popular cocktail ‘Sex on the Beach’. And giving the drinks a fresh taste,Kekade is preparing them with lots of fresh fruits like strawberries, mulberries and other seasonal fruits.
There are, however, others who feel that it is better to retain with the same old flavours, which are proven hits with partygoers. Pina Colada,Daiquiri,Mojito,Tequila Sunrise,Bloody Mary,Margaritas – these are some of the cocktails that are staple serves at city lounges and clubs. Shekhar Pimpalkhare,of Club Oasis, says,We are retaining the old favourites as our regulars love these flavours.
