Shoppers paradise lost

Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare,said,“As there is a lot pedestrian movement in areas such as Laxmi Road,Shanipar and Mandai,pickpocketing, cell phone and purse thefts are frequent.”

Cases of house break-ins and robberies are reported but the number is not very significant,said Phadtare. “To keep a check on pickpocketing and cellphone thefts,we regularly keep a tab on the known offenders. There is regular nakabandi and checking during specific time of the day or if we have any inputs.”

Shop owners often fall victim to thieves. Motichand Rathod,senior police inspector Vishrambag police station,said,“Women and children are also reportedly involved in thefts in Mandai and Tulshibag.”
