Settlement Commissionerate to recruit 850 persons

Those armed with a civil diploma or an ITI with survey trade can now look for opportunities with the Settlement Commissionerate here. The department is set to fill 850 positions lying vacant for the past two years which,officials believe,will help them to clear a pending 65,000 cases.

The process of filling these positions will be completed by November this year. A proposal in this regard has been put up with the government and officials expect the new recruits,with better specialisation,will help speed up the pending cases. “We have recommended for change in criteria for recruitment of these people as specialisation in the said area will help us function better,’’ says Settlement Commissioner and Director of Land Records Chandrakant Dalvi.

Dalvi,who had implemented the zero pendency pattern at the district collectorate,is looking to replicate it the Settlement Commissionerate. For the past two years,the proposal for recruitment was pending and the staff strength was inadequate to address the chunk of land surveys.

It was decided to fill 850 positions following an assessment of vacancies. Dalvi says pending cases till May 2011 will be taken up on priority and sorted out once the recruitment is completed.

Santosh Dighe,an ITI diploma holder who is yet to find a job,is hopeful of making it to the department. “With a specialisation in survey,the huge number of positions to be filled is good news.” Savita Kane,a civil diploma holder from Satara,is yet to hear of the recruitment. “Once it is out in the papers,I will definitely apply.”

Besides surveyors,the deparment is also looking to recruit 450 peons. “These proposals have been pending and unless there is enough staff we cannot execute the work,’’ a department official said.

Online mutation entry project on course

The replication of the online mutation entry project of Mulshi taluk in the state is on course with chief minister Prithviraj Chavan laying thrust of computerisation of land records. The Centre had allocated Rs 13 crore for the project and an additional Rs 23 crore for renovation of land records room in various taluks.

The project,which ensures computerised notices of land transactions and completes procedures for updating land documents within 15 days,was initiated in Mulshi office last year.
