Vir Das chocolate-boy charm,which he wears casually,makes him stand out. Though he seems unaware of it,his nonchalance hasnt gone unnoticed by the film industry that has been offering him roles ever since Das moved base to India two years ago. After a special appearance in Namaste London and a role in Mumbai Salsa,the 30-year-old funny man will soon be seen in Abhinay Deos Delhi Belly and Yash Rajs untitled film with Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
Das insists he never wanted to act. The right question isnt whether I wanted to do movies but whether people thought I would ever do it. And the answer to that is no,which is probably why Im doing it in the first place. Of his present roles,there isnt much he can reveal. One movie is with Aamir Khans production house and the other with Yash Raj Films. What are the chances I can tell you anything? he says.
Despite having done innumerable live comedy shows across the world,the sight of the photographer instantly makes him nervous. The way people vent it out in the gym,I use the stage to take it all out. Thats the only space where Im uninhibited,he adds.
This reclusive trait extends into his personal life as well. Das spends most of his time indoorshis quaint house in the suburb of Khar or his house in Goa. I need to be near a water-body to think and write. So,most of my work happens in Goa or in the three-hour showers that I take when in Mumbai.
His time spent in the shower is paying off well. Das first music album will hit the stores soon and in October,his first film as a screenwriter will go on floors. These may sound random,but everything Im doing has a funny connect,he explains. But Das considers this a transitory phase. This year will decide what course I take next, he says. Im open to going back to where I came from even though Im loving every bit of this city and the country.
Im a huge patriot; India is on a great growth path. Its like the Mumbai airport when it was being done,people complained of the inconvenience but now,they have shut up to enjoy every bit of the global facilities the airport has to offer. Heres to flying high then.
