A senior citizen was strangulated in his house by a domestic help in the wee hours of Saturday. The incident took place when Vinod Brijlal Parekh,70,tried to stop his domestic help from stealing money from his Kondhwa home. Parekh was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries in the afternoon.
Parekh and his wife used to stay in Konarkpuram area of Kondhwa. Around a week ago, their daughter, who stays in Mumbai, sent Sham Ghishalal Paniyar (20) to their house as the couple had not been keeping well.
The servant had been working for them since Monday. Around 1 am on Saturday,he tried to steal money from a cupboard in the house. Parekh, who was sleeping at that time, got up because of the sound and resisted the robbery bid. Paniyar then strangled Parekh who fell unconscious. Suspecting that Parekh was dead,Paniyar dragged him into the bathroom, Prasad Hasabnis, senior police inspector,Kondhwa police station said. Parekh had had epileptic fits in the past and was on medication for it.
Paniyar then told Parekhs wife Hiralaxmi (70) that he has had a fit and was lying unconscious in the bathroom. They immediately called a doctor and Parekh was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition improved a bit, said Hasabnis.
Parekh told the doctor what had happened and the doctor,Anil Shendge, registered a complaint. After verification,we arrested Paniyar in the morning, Milind Thosar, police inspector (crime),the investigating officer in the case, said. Unfortunately,Parekhs condition deteriorated and he died at 3:15 in the afternoon. The suspect has been arrested on murder charge. We have recovered Rs 69,000 cash from him, Hasabnis said. Paniyar is a native of Rajgad in Madhya Pradesh and was working at Parekh daughters house since the last three years.
