The Poona Music Society in association with the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) will be holding a screening of Finding Carlton,written and directed by Susheel Kurien. The documentary tells the universal story of the jazz musician. The captivating and unique character-driven film takes the audiences on a journey into India’s little known jazz age that lasted from the 1920s to the 1970s,through a portrait of surviving Indian jazzman,the maverick guitartist Carlton Kitto,who chose to continue as a ‘gigging’ be-bop guitarist in the relative obscurity of Calcutta. Susheel Kurien’s professional career began as an assistant director in Mumbai to an award winning copywriter. The director who has chose to become a New Yorker since 1981 will be present at the screening.
Coffee Conversations
Exploring the complexities of relationships in modern times,the upcoming Marathi film ‘Coffee’ aims at exploring what goes into helping them sustain. While the film is compared in its literal sense with the ingredients of a perfect coffee,standing in as a metaphor for the products needed to make a successful relationship,it details the lives of three youngsters Ranjeet,Renuka and Rohit and how their lives and relationships are formed as they go on to become close friends. The film has been directed by Harsh Iyer and stars Ankush Chaudhary,Puja Sawant,Prasad Oak and Arun Kadam amongst others in the lead roles.
Flower power
Nashik-based painter Sharvari Luth is showcasing her solo exhibition ‘Say It With Flowers’ at the Darpan Art Gallery in Patrakar Nagar off Senapati Bapat road. Her collection is primarily comprises paintings made on flowers and she will be displaying a total of 25 such paintings. The exhibition is on till October 9. Luth,who is an architect by qualification and an educationist by profession,took to painting ever since she was fascinated by colours at the age of five. Outside Pune and Nashik,she has held exhibitions at art residences across Europe.
