Science institute pins hope on budget

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER),which got an outlay of Rs 65 crore last year,is hoping for at least Rs 150 crore towards construction in this year’s budget.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER),which got an outlay of Rs 65 crore last year,is hoping for at least Rs 150 crore towards construction in this year’s budget.

IISER,which was allotted land for construction in the NCL campus,has already submitted the blueprint before the ministry for approval.

The institute is hoping that this year’s budget would clear the amount required for the construction.

“This year,we are hoping that the outlay will be between Rs 120-150 crore,”said director Dr KL Ganesh.

With last year’s budget allocation,we had constructed 128-room hostel and got the equipment required for the students. The first batch of students from the Pune centre will pass out in 2011 after completing five-year MS degree course.

The inauguration of the new campus was held three years ago.

With the blueprint ready,the director hopes to start building construction this year itself. He is hoping that all the five IISERs,in Bhopal,Mohali,Kolkata,Thiruvanantapuram and Pune will get good allocation.

Recently,there was a move by IISER to provide five-year integrated MS degree course admissions to HSC pass outs on the basis of merit.

While the details of the admission procedure are being worked out,this is being looked as a third channel of admission.
