Satara village becomes first in state to be powered 100% by solar power

According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Shivtirth Nagar in Kothrud and Sector 25 in Nigdi have also been chosen under the Solar Village scheme.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday launched the Solar Village Scheme, an initiative aimed at providing 100 per cent solar-powered electricity to 100 villages, at a function held in Satara. Manyachiwadi, a village in Satara district, has become the first village in the state to be electrified 100 per cent by solar power.

According to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution, Shivtirth Nagar in Kothrud and Sector 25 in Nigdi will be electrified 100 per cent with solar power. The power utility has decided to electrify two villages in each district completely with solar power.

“The objective of the government is zero electricity bills for households as part of the PM Suryagarh Muft Bijali Yojana. The aim is to also provide farmers with free power,” CM Shinde said in his speech.

Shinde lauded the initiative taken by Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and others for ensuring solar powered electricity. “Consumers in Manyachiwadi village can now use solar power,” Sarpanch Ravindra Mane said.

The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Guardian Minister Shambhuraj Desai, Women and Child Development minister Aditi Tatkare, chairman and managing director of Mahavitaran Lokesh Chandra, sarpanch of Manyachiwadi Ravindra Mane and MSEDCL director (Projects) Prasad Reshma.

The CM said that residential consumers will also get free power of up to 300 units through the Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Mofat Bijli Yojna. “Manyachiwadi village in Satara district has earned the honor of being the first solar village in the state.”
