DJ Yves Larock feels that while trance music is already popular in India,House music is yet to catch up

It’s instrumental version was created in 2007 and for a long time Yves Larock scouted for the voice that would bring alive the lyrics. It was after his friend Jaba, who has a reggae band — Moonraisers, hesitantly accepted to sing to the music that Rise Up was born, the phenomenal track that continues to be the anthem of club music. And this time it will be the song’s composer himself spinning the track for Puneites as the world renowned Swiss DJ and producer will be in the city this weekend during his first ever tour of the country.

Known for House music,Larock has recently played gigs throughout Europe and will be here with his latest work as he adds,“It’s difficult to decide what my audience will get to listen to over here since I never prepare my DJ sets but usually try to see the atmosphere and what the crowd is looking forward to. For me it is more important that the audience has fun; although I will definately try out my new single called -Don’t Turn Back and a few of my records.”

Larock has also shaped music charts, with hits including Zookey in 2005,Rise Up,By Your Side and his latest single Without Love. “Well as a DJ I have been touring across the globe, from Europe to Las Vegas and Miami but I cannot stay without going to my studio. Besides Don’t Turn Back,I will be working with my colleague DJ Tremendo (Davide Mereu) on the releases for autumn,of my label Millia Records. In music I like to do things that have something special and in fact I use different instruments and sounds in house/electronic music,” says Larock, who also uses ethnic instruments and believes they mould the mood of the song.

While he feels India still has to catch up as far as house music is concerned, trance he says has certainly set its foot here adding,“In Europe we hear about Goa and the trance and psychedelic trance that is played there. The response to House music should surprise me when I am here. But I am convinced that India will be a huge market in the future not just for the music but every aspect of it,”

(Yves Larock will be playing at Hard Rock Cafe on June 5)
